Carribean Market-New Hampshire Ave. in Langley Park

Down stairs from a decent Salvation Army thrift store, the Carribean Market has a huge selection of Carribean food, as well as a fresh butcher. The produce runs the gamut from yams and sorrel to breadfruit, and the selection of bulk stuff includes pigeon peas and semolina. There's also a wide selection of packaged food and Goya products. An excellent market!

African store-on 32nd at Greenmount

One of the most intriguing of the Waverly markets, it reeks of dried fish set out in huge barrels. Palm oil is leaking all over the shelves, and a big section at the front of the store is given over to video tapes.

Thai Grocery off Greenmount

Thai and Carribean food off Greenmount Ave, hard against the new Waverly Giant Foods. Inexpensive bird peppers, basil, and cilantro. A full range of (real) yams. Shallots for ~$3/lb., unfortunately packaged in plastic bags, so that many times they are rotten. Frozen goat meat and a wide selection of frozen fish. Frozen spice patties.

Tortillaeria

On Eastern Ave. at Broadway in Fell's Point, the best tacos in town. They've recently expanded their menu to include some new varieties...They also sell fresh tortillas for very cheap, and fresh corn chips which are stupendous.

Punjab Grocery-33rd Street

Indian food in Charles Village. Decent 50-cent samosas are sold on the front counter.

There's also a Punjabi market (possibly also called The Punjab) on Broadway in Fell's Point, but I've not been there yet.
